Job Title:
Associate Solicitor
Services:
I first came to Kent to read Law at the University of Kent. I graduated with First Class Honours in 2014 and then completed the Legal Practice Course in Leicester. I returned to Kent in 2015 to join Whitehead Monckton as a trainee solicitor. Upon successful completion of my training contract in 2017, I qualified into the Tax and Estate Planning department. I was promoted to Senior Solicitor in September 2022 and Associate Solicitor in January 2024.
I am based in the Maidstone office and deal with all manner of private client work including the preparation of wills, trusts and lasting powers of attorney and dealing with probate and the administration of estates. My particular area of expertise is older and vulnerable adults; assisting with issues relating to mental capacity, deputyships and Court of Protection applications.
Since April 2024 I have proudly headed up the firm’s Social and Community Committee (‘SCC’) which is part of the firm’s ESG initiatives. The Committee’s focus is on social and wellbeing initiatives for employees as well as the firm’s wider social value and purpose in the communities we serve, including support through volunteering and charitable fundraising.
Awards and Accreditations
I am a full member of the Society of Tax and Estate Practitioners (‘STEP’), having passed the specialist STEP Diploma in Advising Vulnerable Clients with distinction in early 2020. I have been part of the STEP Kent Branch Committee since 2023.
I am an accredited member of The Association of Lifetime Lawyers (formerly Solicitors for the Elderly) – the gold standard when it comes to supporting vulnerable and older people with legal advice.
In 2018 I was awarded Kent Junior Lawyer of the Year. The judges praised me for my positive contribution to the firm, local community and the legal profession through both paid and unpaid work and in particular, my elderly client and dementia efforts.
Volunteering
I volunteer for the Alzheimer’s Society as a Dementia Friends Ambassador, regularly conducting information sessions for colleagues and the local community in the UK’s biggest initiative to change the way people think, act and talk about dementia. I am a former Chair of the ‘Building a Dementia Friendly Maidstone’ community group and still get involved with local dementia friendly events and initiatives. I obtained ‘Working to Become Dementia Friendly Kent’ recognition for the firm in 2018 and have helped to maintain that recognition since.
