Judith Harling‑Coward has been announced as the winner of Kent Law Society’s Trailblazer in Law Award 2026, recognising her exceptional work in surrogacy law.
Surrogacy is an emerging area of law within the family law arena, and Judith has led the development of specialist expertise within Whitehead Monckton’s Family Law team.
The Trailblazer in Law award honours an individual who is shaping the future of the legal profession through innovation, leadership and progressive thinking. It celebrates those who are challenging the status quo and introducing transformative ideas to inspire positive change.
Judith was selected from a strong field of nominees for her vision, dedication to client care, and her role in driving meaningful change for positive impact.
Surrogacy in England and Wales is an increasingly popular route to parenthood. While it can be incredibly positive and life-changing, it’s also a sensitive and complex process requiring careful planning and specialist advice from the outset.
Speaking about the award, Judith said “It was a great honour to receive the award for Trailblazer in law presented to me by Kent Law Society. I am fortunate to have the backing of a progressive and independent firm established with over 245 years of knowledge and be part of a brilliant family team with leadership who likes to empower. Surrogacy is a sensitive, emotional and costly journey and, for some, the only way these intended parents can build their family. It was important to me that we could further our support for modern families in Kent, London and the surrounding areas, so that they can access clear and cost-effective legal advice when embarking on their surrogacy journey. So, I was very happy to accept the award on behalf of our surrogacy team here and we are so pleased to be able to help bring these special babies home”.
