Dementia Friends at Whitehead Monckton

Leading Awareness Sessions and Supporting Dementia Friendly Communities

At Whitehead Monckton, we’re proud to support the Alzheimer’s Society’s Dementia Friends initiative – a movement designed to change the way we all think, talk and act about dementia.

Bekka Fuszard, Senior Solicitor in our Tax and Estate Planning Department, is a trained Dementia Friends Ambassador for the Alzheimer’s Society, volunteering her time to lead Dementia Friends Information Sessions for staff and the local community.

“I signed up because I’m passionate about dementia awareness. My grandad had dementia, and working in the Tax and Estate Planning Department here, I regularly meet clients who are living with dementia themselves or have loved ones who are. It’s vital they feel heard, understood and supported, and I’m proud to be part of a growing network of people creating dementia friendly communities together.” Bekka

Why Dementia Friends Matters

The initiative tackles the lack of public understanding around dementia – building a network of over 2.5 million Dementia Friends across the UK. These small steps spark big change: helping people with dementia feel more included and understood in everyday life.

Dementia Friends information sessions

These sessions are warm, informal and informative, lasting around 45–60 minutes. Bekka receives ongoing training and support from the Alzheimer’s Society to ensure every session helps break stigma and build understanding.

Each session lasts 45-60 minutes.

If you’re interested in attending a Dementia Friends Information Session, reach out to Bekka Fuszard directly. You can also check our Events page for upcoming sessions.

A Commitment to Our Community

Whitehead Monckton has proudly been recognised as Working to Become Dementia Friendly since 2018. To earn our Dementia Friendly Kent badge, we committed to:

  • Having a high percentage of staff trained as Dementia Friends
  • Supporting dementia-friendly events across Kent, especially around Maidstone
  • Taking part in community groups like Building a Dementia Friendly Maidstone, chaired previously by Bekka

How This Links to Our Legal Support

When it comes to dementia, compassion is the cornerstone of good legal practice.

At Whitehead Monckton, we understand that behind every legal matter is a real person. That’s why our lawyers take time to truly understand the individual journey each client is on – recognising emotions and circumstances that come with living with or caring for someone with dementia.

We don’t simply offer solutions. We listen. We collaborate – often with family members, medical professionals, and support networks – to ensure each decision is made with kindness, clarity and dignity.

Our approach to mental capacity is thoughtful and patient. Before progressing with any legal step, we make sure clients feel safe, heard, and respected.

We provide tailored support across areas such as:

Wills and estate planning: helping ensure your wishes are honoured with care and foresight.

Lasting Powers of Attorney: offering peace of mind by appointing someone you trust – before you ever need it.

Court of Protection: supporting families through difficult decisions when capacity has already been lost.

Tax planning and more: all delivered with sensitivity and a genuine commitment to your wellbeing.
